Game On Blog Tour Day 5 - Plus, Seeking Your Input for Book 2!

It's Friday!! And the sun is shining!! Looks like the start of a gorgeous weekend, and I plan to spend at least some of it away from the computer! :p

I'd like to begin with another thank you to all of you who have been following the tour, those who have hosted me and all of the wonderful people who have bought Game On! It actually blows my mind that I wrote a book that people want to buy. Me! I'm afraid you'll have to put up with my daily posts for a bit longer though, because this is a two week tour, so there are many more awesome posts to come your way!

Yesterday, I posed a question about whether books in a series need to have titles that match. Pretty much all of you said that at the very least, there needs to be some link between them. I was worried because I wasn;t sure I could come up with enough soccer terms that fit the stories I have in mind, but after scribbling down a bunch of notes and ideas with Clare Dugmore (thank you!!) I think I have it sorted!

However - this is where you come in! I really wasn't crazy about the idea of calling Book 2 "Foul Play." It's ugly. While playing around with soccer terms, I stumbled across "Blind side." I think that "Blindsided" is a very fitting title for the events in Book 2, my problem is, I don't know if it's recognisable enough as a soccer thing. So, cast your votes - "Blindsided" - yes or no? Does it make you think of soccer in any way? Or does it sound like I'm trying to steer away from the soccer theme? Let me know your thoughts!

And finally - today's tour stops!

Radleigh McCoy stopped by Annalisa Crawford's blog to talk about how he got started playing soccer. Annalisa is a fellow UK writer with enormous talent, and I am thrilled that I get to meet up with her next week!! Can't wait!

And I'll also be with the beautiful Rachel Schieffelbein, who I met when we hosted the WIP: The Movie blogfest together! Rachel will have a short excerpt from Game On for you!

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend, and thanks again for all of your support! Bloggers rock!

  1. There's a Sandra Bullock film called The Blindside. I know all titles exist somewhere, but I just thought I'd point it out. Did you Google search Game On? I always google possible titles because then I can see how popular they are.

And I'm really excited to be meeting you too!

  2. Not sure I'm the best to ask since I know next to nothing about soccer terms, but I don't think it's a bad title. One thing about Foul Play though, it's definitely a play on the words...simply because "foul play" would make me think of a murder mystery.

  3. Hmmmm... as Annalisa stated about the Sandra Bullock movie, I think it might be too close. To me personally when I read that title, I'd think about that movie. It was a blockbuster so many people might get it confused. I just wouldn't want people get the wrong idea and confusing your awesome novel with something else.

But remember... my opinion isn't law so take it with a grain of salt.

Thanks for letting me host on your blog tour yesterday. It was a blast!

  4. I really wish I could help with the title but I know zip about football.

  5. Foul Play sounds too crime-y to me, so I'd go with Blindsided... not quite sure it sounds women's ficton enough, though. Worth playing around with a bit more, maybe?

    Enjoy the weekend!

  6. I know very little about sports, but Blindsided does make me think of athletes, for what it's worth... :)

  7. You definitely need some more people who know soccer, I am not one. So consider that. I think it'd be fine as a title, but would worry about how common it is too. Titles suck, don't they.

It'll work out in the end.

  8. Agree with Annalisa - very close to the movie The Blind Side.
    Already visited your stop today!

  9. Hmm...I kind of like Foul Play--especially if you had a cute soccer cover to go along with it like the first.

  10. Unfortunately, I have to agree with Alex and Annalisa, it's too close of an association with "Blindside" which was about football player.

Keep going, I know you'll land on a perfect title.

  11. While everyone has said the name of the book is too close to "Blindside," it can be used to your advantage. When people search for the other movie or book, yours will come up too. I do like the name "Blindsided" better as it feels more surprising than negative.

(FEARLESS is also the name of the new Taylor Swift album and a popular YA series of books. A few people that have went searching for those other things have come across mine and liked it!)

  12. I'm afraid I thought of Football (American) when you say blindside. I'll try to think of something helpful and get back to you. I might call the guy up the street that is a former soccer player. Good luck!

  13. I didn't know it was a football or soccer term until you mentioned it, but I think it fits with the soccer terminology, and theme of the book.

I wouldn't worry too much about the film connection. Sometimes names do double up, and honestly I didn't even make the connection. Others may not. And like Christine said, you might get people finding it by accident, and then liking it.

IWSG: Performance anxiety

Welcome to the August edition of IWSG, hosted by the amazing Alex J.Cavanaugh ! So, as most of you know by now - because I haven't shut up about it LOL - my first novel, Game On, has been released. The blog tour officially starts next week (YAY!) but I find myself becoming increasingly nervous. A blog tour not only highlights my book, but me. What if people don't like me? What if my guest posts suck, and everyone thinks I'm boring? If I can't engage people in 300 words on a blog, they probably aren't going to pick up my book. And then there's the "what happens next" question. I plan to make Game On into a series, which feels a bit arrogant of me. I don't know how many people are going to like the first book, should I really be planning to keep the series going? So far, Game On has actually been incredibly well received. I've had great reviews, so maybe I shouldn't worry about people not liking it, but what if Book Two isn't as goo

Dust It Off Bloghop!

Welcome to day one of the Dust It Off Bloghop, hosted by Theresa Paolo and Cortney Pearson ! This hop is all about the WIPs you wrote, and then shelved! Okay, so I am teaming up with Clare Dugmore for this one, because back in 2006 - yup, we've known each other THAT long lol! - we started to write a book together. Unfortunately, other commitments got in the way and we never finished it - but even so many years on - it's still something we remember fondly, so we're going to dust it off for you! The first day, May 3rd: We want you to post a 1-2 sentence pitch (Great way to practice pitches) about the shelved WIP. Here is the pitch Clare and I came up with: For best friends Caitlin and Tori, their first acting job out of Uni opens up a whole new world for them – unfortunately, it wasn’t the world they were expecting. When the strains of adult life and tangled relationships threaten to ruin their friendship, they are forced to take a look at what’s really importan
